The first thing I tried to do after the first install was to load Firefox and visit this forum. Firefox will not start after trying to install FFmpeginstaller. Any subsequent attempt to install FFmpeginstaller results in an error on the screen which does not appear in the log file. This error was not on the screen on the first installation attempt. The error is:

Package 1:make-3.82-3.fc14.x86_64 already installed and latest version

Package apr-util-1.3.10-1.fc14.x86_64 already installed and latest version

To fix Firefox I type yum remove firefox, then yum install firefox. Installing firefox again will also install the alsa-lib dependencies that got messed up when using FFmpeginstaller. This problem is 100% reproducable on my machine. I've tried installing FFmpeginstaller 8 times, and each time Firefox no longer works after using FFmpeginstaller. There may be other programs that no longer work as well, but Firefox was most obvious.

In the past I have been able to edit and do small changes to make the previous versions of ffmpeginstaller to work, but with this version, I don't know what to do.

Please assist me in learning how I can have a proper ffmpeginstaller.7.0 installation. What should I do next?

Hello,

You may better install it in a server and not a desk top. Becuase it will remove the alsa and other libs. Also install svn and git before  starting the installation .

Re: Script fails at mplayer.tar.gz and screws up system

I want to use ffmpeginstaller. Please assist me in learning how I can have a proper ffmpeginstaller.7.0 installation. What should I do next? Telling me not to use the product, doesn't answer my question as to how I can get it working.

You say that It's better to install a server and not a desktop. This is very vague. Are you saying that ffmpeginstaller cannot be used on a system that can be used as a desktop, even though it's main purpose is a server, or Are you saying ffmepginstaller can be used on a server that is also a desktop, but shouldn't?

If you are aware that ffmepginstaller screws up other programs like the alsa-lib, then why don't you fix it?

Please assist me in learning how I can have a proper ffmpeginstaller.7.0 installation on a Fedora 14 x86_64 server, that also can be used as a desktop. What should I do next?

Git and subversion are both installed prior to using ffmpeginstaller. In addition to my newer version of git, the ffmpeginstaller installs its own older version of git too. After using ffmpeginstaller I have 2 versions of git running on my machine. At no point did I ever consider running the ffmpeginstaller without git, svn.  and subversion installed first, but since you mentioned it, I tested some things. I tried removing git and subversion from my system prior to installing ffmpeginstaller, and it has no effect. I reinstalled git and subversion and am now waiting for further help.

Thanks

Hello ,

Well  , First of all it is just an opensource script , you can edit or modify it as you wish . This is created for server installation which won't  use desktop modes in server. Because  ffmpeg need to remove libs like alsa  and default codes , this will break  your desk top media players .

So edit it as you wish and install .
